Why Do We Want A Promotion

Last night, a friend of mine asked me a simple question..

"WHY DO YOU WANT A PROMOTION?"

It got me thinking..so I answered that i would like a job that fits my needs and experience..

There are no right or wrong answer for this question..but his answer was simple..and true..

"TO BE IN A POSITION WHERE WHAT I SAY IS HEARD"

I was dumbfounded..that is soooo true..how many of us lament daily that our ideas are not given due justice? Or how the solution of things are so straightforward, but because it came from a junior officer or someone of a lower rank, it goes unnoticed??

So we resort in twisting the idea a bit, making it as if it came from your bosses, or someone who is given due respect..and patiently, we wait for the day that our voice or thoughts will be heard..

This is a picture of me with my lovely friend, Munirah..she has proven to be a friendly and wise listener..and for that, i am grateful. This picture was taken before our diploma in public administration ceremony..the only time I am wearing my number one dress..at this moment, Munirah and a few others were the only people who could make me smile, and forget about the turmoil I was facing at this point in time, but that..is a another story..

When I first applied for PTD, to tell u the truth, I didn't even know what it was..but everyone was recommending it to me..so i decided to give it a shot..To cut a long story short, I reported for duty on the 19th of December 2005..

It's been three years now, and I have had my share in office politics, backstabbers, whiners, complainers, and not to mention the Golden People I had the privillege to work with..

I learned the true meaning of working as a team, to respect even the simplest of ideas, to appreciate the work that government servants that somehow is always portrayed in a bad light, despite our efforts to keep the public and our stakeholders happy..

My kewangan team in JKPTG is a good example that teamwork simply works..and we find strength in each other, despite the naysayers that we were underperforming and "lembab". Everytime i think of them, I am proud that we have made an impact on our Department's financial side. Jashida and Mariani, keep up the good work..CC Mariam, Rohani, Faisal, Murni, Linda, Su and the rest..i miss you guys everyday..

Next week, I'll be going to a new place, a division that I have set my eyes on for a long time.. I hope I can really proove myself, for the greater good of the Environment..

So Amir, thanks for your question, and the insight it gave me to write this down..
